I was recently installing updates on my MacBook Pro and during the installation process it came up with, 'An unexpected error occurred, none of the updates were installed,' and I was given the option of restarting my computer. I pressed restart and let it sit for a while, after approximately five minutes of nothing happening to restart the computer I turned it off at the power button. Upon turning it on again in the middle of the screen it came up with 'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power Button until it turns off, then press the power button again.
I've done this numerous times and I have encountered the same outcome each time. On the left hand side of the screen is as follows: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800064ba7b): 'Unable to find driver for this platform: 'ACPI'. Afriad to say - me to. It was the Thunderbolt update (for gig adaptor) that appeared to cause the issue for me. This was on my MBP 13' early-2011. I did all other updates on my MBA Mid 2011 and all good. Held off on the TB one!!!
Just a well it appears. Will do some digging and see if I can sort.
Single user mode doesn't work - just booted to recovery partition - ran all usual Disk Util bits but no joy. Reset NV + PRAM for good measure, reselected Startup disk - still no joy. Going to start digging around in the system via TDM over TB to my Air. Keep you posted. Hi Guys No good news I'm afraid. I have been through ALL the system caches and files that were updated at the time of said issue.
Reset - rebuild and even gone back to my TimeMachine copy from earlier this AM. Can only assume it is something deeper in the /usr or var or private folders. I have cloned the system and core files (/usr, /private) etc etc to an external HD and it still recreates the fault.
I am afraid to say I have no more time at the minute to look at so have put my machine back to 2 hours prior via my TimeCapsule. I the absense of anyone else or, indeed, Apple fixing in the next 12 hours, will get back onto it from the cloned copy I have kept and see if I can find the offending file/files. Sorry I don't have an immedaite solution. Apple Footer.
